Is God Trying To Get The World’s Attention? October 8, 2014 Blood Moon

A blood moon occurs today on October 8, 2014.  People believe different things regarding today’s blood moon.  Some believe that it is much ado about nothing.  Some believe it is a little “spooky”.  While others believe that it points to the Bible, the judgment coming upon the world, and the return of the Lord.

What Is A Blood Moon?

A blood moon occurs when a lunar eclipse creates a reddish color on the moon.

What Does the Bible Say About Blood Moons?

Pastor Mark Blitz is an expert on Jewish history.  He has done extensive studies on the Feasts of Israel.  At one point, he checked Bible passages referring to the blood moon and the Day of the Lord in the Bible.

Example Found In:  Acts 2:20 King James Version (KJV):

“The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and notable day of the Lord come.”

The Link Between Blood Moons and Jewish Feast Days:

Pastor Blitz then went to the NASA website to see when the scheduled solar and lunar eclipses were to occur.  He made an incredible discovery!  On rare occasions, blood moons (lunar eclipses) happen on Jewish Feast Days.  He also discovered that blood moons have occurred on special events in the past associated with Jews like the Spanish Inquisition, the rebirth of the nation of Israel in 1948, and the capture of Jerusalem in the 1967 Six-Day War.

The Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot):

Today, October 8, 2014, is known as the Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot).  This is also the day for a blood moon. This blood moon is very rare because it is part of a Tetrad of blood moons; meaning that four blood moons will occur on Jewish Feast Days.  The first blood moon occurred on April 15, 2014.  Two more are scheduled for April 4, 2015 and September 28, 2015.

“Sukkot, or the Feast of Tabernacles, is a week-long fall festival commemorating the 40-year journey of the Israelites in the wilderness. It is one of the three great pilgrimage feasts recorded in the Bible when all Jewish males were required to appear before the Lord in the Temple in Jerusalem. The word Sukkot means “booths.” Throughout the holiday, Jews continue to observe this time by building and dwelling in temporary shelters; just like the Hebrew people did while wandering in the desert. This joyous celebration is a reminder of God’s protection, provision, and faithfulness”.  (Mary Fairchild, Christianity Expert, “Feast of Tabernacles or Feast of Boots is the Jewish Holiday Sukkot,”  Accessed October 8, 2014, biblefeastsandholidays/p/feastofbooths.htm)

End Time Prophecy in the Bible:

If we take a look at Matthew 24:6-8, it tells us some things to expect during the end of time.

Matthew 24:6-8:

“6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.

7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in diver’s places.

8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.”

Let’s take a look at some of the things happening in our world today.  These events make front-page headlines.

Wars and Rumors of Wars:

Since the first blood moon back on April 15, there has been total chaos in the Middle East.  The terrorist group, Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, (ISIS), continues to grow in number and strength,  with extreme violence in Iraq, as it destroys churches and mosques, kills or drives from their homes anyone who does not convert to its brand of Islam, and kidnaps and beheads citizens of countries that dare to stand against it.  (Religion News Service,   “ISIS Terror Reigns, Israel is Under Threat, and We’ve Only Seen the First of the Four Blood Moons”, October 6, 2014,

Nuclear Famine:

According to the Physicians For Social Responsibility, due to the decline in corn and rice production, a regional nuclear war in

South Asia supports the concern that more than one billion people would be in danger of starvation. Epidemic disease and further conflict spawned by such a famine would put additional hundreds of millions at risk.  (“Nuclear Famine:  A Billion People At Risk”, Accessed October 8, 2014, resources /nuclear -famine-a-billion-people-at-risk.html)

Ebola Pestilence

The current outbreak of Ebola has killed about 3,400 across West Africa.  Thomas Eric Duncan, the first patient diagnosed in the US with Ebola, passed away today at a Dallas hospital.   “Ebola outbreak: US patient Thomas Duncan on dialysis”, October 7, 2014,

Super Storm:

The super typhoon Vongfong is now heading towards Japan and is considered to be the strongest storm of 2014.  Currently, it has an intensity of 180 miles per hour.  “It’s safe to say Vongfong is the strongest storm on Earth since Haiyan last year,” said Michael Lowry, storm specialist for The Weather Channel.  Although, the massive storm is heading towards Japan it is unlikely that the intensity of Vongfong will remain the same. The Met department has revealed that the typhoon will weaken considerable while it reaches Japan, thereby diminishing chances of heavy damage. (Dina Spector, “The ‘Strongest Storm On Earth’ This Year Is Barreling Toward Japan”, October 8, 2014,

Skeptics can choose to believe what they will.  However, it is obvious to me when reading the Bible, that God is trying to get our attention and we need to wake up!  Time is short.  Eternity is the only thing that will matter in the end.  Have you made your reservation in heaven yet?  You may not have tomorrow to decide.
